What Is Sargassum?
Sargassum is a type of floating seaweed that naturally occurs in the Atlantic Ocean. In recent years, unusually large blooms of this seaweed have been washing up along coastlines throughout the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and beyond. This has become a regional issue caused by a combination of factors, including changing ocean currents, warming sea temperatures, and nutrient runoff from rivers.
While it plays an important role in marine ecosystems out at sea by providing habitat for fish, turtles, and other marine life, large amounts of sargassum washing ashore can create challenges for beaches, coastal waters, and resorts like ours.
What Are We Doing About It?
We want to assure you that our team works diligently every day to manage the impact of sargassum on our beachfront and swimming areas. Some of the steps we take include daily beach cleaning and responsible disposal of sargassum.
Despite our best efforts, there may be days during peak sargassum season when the seaweed is more noticeable both in the water and on the shore.
