To provide our guests with the best scuba diving experience, we’ve brought in a seasoned diving instructor to lead trips at Belize Dive Haven Resort. Norbert Pietkiewicz has been scuba diving since he was fourteen and has traveled the world exploring sites. When he dove Turneffe Atoll and saw the reef, he knew he needed to share the beauty of the area with other divers.
Originally from Poland, Norbert has always loved water, spending his youth fishing with his father. At 14, he decided he wanted to scuba dive, so he learned by becoming a volunteer firefighter, which had a dive club affiliated with it. From there, he moved to the Polish Navy where he beat out hundreds of other candidates to become one of eight diving instructors. After being discharged from the Navy, he emigrated to Canada and landed in Newfoundland in 1990.
Norbert opened the first dive centre in Gander, Newfoundland and ran a successful business harvesting sea urchins for Japanese markets until he closed up shop and headed to Toronto in 1999. He opened AquaSub Scuba Diving Centre in 2002, and since then, has been organizing diving trips all over the world for his customers.
Diving is a central part of not only Norbert’s life but his family’s as well. His love of diving is shared by his wife, who is an accomplished scuba diving instructor in addition to an underwater photographer. His daughter took up diving, becoming a certified scuba instructor and is married to a scuba diving instructor as well.
When Norbert first dove into the reef surrounding Belize Dive Haven, he immediately fell in love with the deep diving walls and abundance of colorful marine life. Additionally, because the resort is far from the mainland, you’re able to dive in pristine waters that are not affected by commercial fishing or boat traffic. Norbert’s passion for deep water diving makes him the perfect divemaster to lead explorations to the depths of the famous Blue Hole, which is less than 20 miles from Belize Dive Haven Resort.
With all the places Norbert has explored, he’s seen some truly breathtaking dive spots, but there’s something special and unique about the location of Belize Dive Haven Resort that makes the dive experience one you shouldn’t miss.
You’re in good hands with Norbert as a diving instructor. When Les Stroud was the host of Shark Week, he hired Norbert to be the head of safety for all his dives.
