Take Perfect Underwater Photos While Scuba Diving

You can’t truly appreciate the underwater beauty of Belize until you experience it for yourself. However, with a few scuba photography tips and tricks, you’ll be able to snap some amazing underwater photos to share with friends and family back home.

Camera Equipment

If you’re new to taking underwater photos, the best option is to buy (or use an existing) DSLR camera with an underwater housing system. This way, you can get some practice without investing in expensive equipment.  With newer scuba phone cases available, you may also explore the use of your mobile phone as an option.

t’s important to remember that it’s dark underwater, and the deeper you dive, the less light there will be. To get good shots, you’ll need to use flash, so make sure your camera has adequate flash capability or that you bring additional lighting.

Photography Techniques

To capture marine-life shots, you need patience. The best pictures are taken close to the subject, which means you’ll have to swim slowly to prevent scaring away fish or aquatic life.

Another tip is that you should always try to get below your subject and shoot upwards. This trick will produce a better-composed picture and are usually easier to take.

It’s important to note that you should be a strong diver before attempting to take underwater photos. Bringing down camera equipment adds weight and can become cumbersome if you’re not extremely comfortable diving to begin with.
