Best Place to Snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef
Measuring in at about 190 miles, the Belize Barrier Reef is the best place to snorkel the western hemisphere’s longest continuous barrier reef. The coral formations are home to a variety of colorful marine life and are a breathtaking sight for snorkelers of all levels. If you’re planning a snorkeling trip to Belize, be aware that it’s not easy to find offshore snorkeling in many places.
Most resorts and hotels offer day trips for snorkeling because they aren’t close to the reef. However, when you stay at Belize Dive Haven on Turneffe Atoll, you can snorkel right off our beautiful beach. In fact, many companies offer trips to the atoll from the mainland to explore the reef, mangrove islets, creeks and lagoons.
When snorkeling at Turneffe Atoll, you can expect to encounter reef fish, rays, sea turtles, lobsters, and possibly even manatees or dolphins in addition to a number of hard and soft coral species. With the water temperature and visibility being fairly stable all year, you can plan a snorkeling trip at any time.
Currently, Belize Dive Haven is in the newest resort on the island and we’re inviting divers to spend a vacation at our resort. During your stay with us, you’ll enjoy up to 3 scuba diving trips per day, 3 freshly prepared meals and transportation to and from the mainland. Between dives, we encourage guests to explore the beautiful reef off our beach where we can provide full snorkeling equipment.
